COACH, BUS, RV,CAMPER SITES and PUBLIC PARKING
The Rabun Arena will be used between 5pm on Sunday, August 20 2017 and 12noon on Tuesday, August 22 2017 for private coaches, buses, RVs and campers to experience the total Solar Eclipse that will occur for 2 minutes and 30 seconds beginning at 2:35pm on Monday, 8/21/17. The length of time for the total eclipse (umbra) at this location will be approximately 2 minutes and 30 seconds, only 9 seconds less that the maximum eclipse time just north of Dillard GA.
The location and elevation of the Arena provides an outstanding view of the Appalachian Mountains where the moon's shadow will sweep over the mountains at over 1400mph!
Main Arena: Bus and RV Parking Sites (covered)
The large covered main arena is an excellent venue for parking large coaches and buses as it provides full shade from the summer sun, power hook ups (50amp/20amp) and easy access to men's and women's restroom facilities with hot showers. The adjacent covered grandstands will be used for solar eclipse educational presentations. A private eclipse viewing area for Arena guests will be located adjacent to the arena. The parking sites under the arena will all be reserved in advance and accessed via a private arena entrance.
Traditional Camping Sites
There are 40 RV/camper sites located just east of the second arena. All have power (50 amp & 30 amp) and water hookups. No sewer or dump stations are provided, but this areas has its own full bathroom facility for men & women with hot showers. The adjacent arena will be used as a gathering place for eclipse festivities. All sites will be reserved in advance on a first come, first serve basis. Reservation details will be announced by February 1st, 2017. Eclipse fans are encouraged to make reservations as soon as possible due to heavy demand for these EXCELLENT sites!
If you plan on driving to Rabun County on Monday, 8/21/17, public parking will be available for a limited number of vehicles. The Rabun Arena is located about 3.5 miles south of The City of Clayton on the east side of U.S. Hwy 441. Watch for the brown directional signs to "Rabun Arena". Turn east on East Boggs Mountain Rd. and take an immediate right on Longview Rd. You'll see the the Arena's entrance on the left.
Free protective eye wear will be provided to all vehicle occupants. Bring your lawn chairs and beach blankets! Water, cold drinks and yummy BBQ by The Wicked Pig will be available at the east end of Arena #2 at the viewing/festivities area.
NOTE: All vehicular movement and pre-eclipse activities will STOP at 2pm so that everyone can move to their eclipse viewing spot and prepare for the total eclipse. This would be a good time to take a bathroom break. All talking, electronic and cell phone activity will STOP at 2:20pm!
